*** MARCH 20, 2020 *** UPDATE ON COVID-19

By now, you may have heard about how we’ve adopted changes to help protect our community, church members, and staff by complying with Alberta Health Services’ directives to restrict mass gatherings and keep social distancing.  As a result, the church building is now closed to all but essential staff, and programs and activities will move to online and the digital platforms until further notice.

Yet, in this uncertain time, we still worship the Lord our God with Sunday services but in a different format. Also, our leaders have thought innovatively to maintain social distancing while forging digital connections as Christ’s body.

Here are some of our church’s milestones:

  • First-ever online worship service live-streaming through our website last Sunday, March 15
  • First-ever prayer meetings online via video conferencing on Wednesday, March 18
  • Small groups meeting online on Thursday, March 19
  • Joshua Fellowship counsellor meeting online on Thursday, March 19

Pastors’ Corner

The fact that our church continues our God-given mission is a testament to the hard work and sacrifices made by our members.

To foster digital connections, your pastors have produced a video to share their thoughts with you. The video is available on YouTube: (https://youtu.be/dYXJEwDJMvA).

And new videos will follow. We’ll be posting weekly devotionals on YouTube. Check back frequently and visit our website for up-to-date links. Be encouraged!

To speed up communication, decision making, and coordination, the Elder Board has assembled an Emergency Response Team to deal with the fluid situation.  Every day, the team assesses the latest developments and determines the church’s response by allocating and prioritizing resources. The team will also provide timely updates on our COVID-19 update page. (https://www.ecac.ca)

The team would love to hear your ideas on how the church is doing, and what we as Jesus’ disciples can do to show our radical love. Please share your ideas with the team through email:  [email protected]

*** MARCH 18, 2020 *** UPDATE ON COVID-19

As more COVID-19 cases are reported and the Alberta Government declares a state of public health emergency, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has announced directives to restrict mass gatherings and ensure social distancing. In view of this, we’re taking the following measures to help our community combat this pandemic and protect our members, attendees, and staff. Your safety and well-being are very important to us.

  1. All public meetings sponsored by our church are suspended. As a result, all church meetings will be exclusively online (virtual meeting) where possible, including prayer meetings, worship services, fellowship meetings, and small group meetings. We’re reviewing options to move these gatherings to online platforms and will update you when details become available. The respective leaders will contact you for the smaller group gatherings.
  2. The church building will be closed except to necessary staff, to do our part in prevention. You can still connect with church staff through phone and email. Please refer to our website or service bulletins for contact information.
  3. Updates will be posted on our website (www.ecac.ca) to coordinate the church activities throughout this public health crisis.
  4. We’re mindful that social distancing could lead to social isolation. The pastoral staff and leaders are looking at innovative ways to care, encourage, and provide hope in a time like this.
  5. As a caring community, we encourage you to reach out to each other, especially the most vulnerable, and stay in touch using telephone or video calling. This may serve to increase communication and help connect with one another like a body of Christ.

Update on COVID-19

As more new COVID-19 cases are reported in the province, the Alberta government and the Gov’t of Canada have updated their responses to contain the spread. Specifically, AHS has revised its directive on mass gatherings (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/topics/Page16997.aspx):

Public Health Restrictions (Mass Gatherings & School)
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Alberta has implemented new public health restrictions.

  • Effective immediately, student attendance at schools is prohibited.
  • Post-secondary classes are cancelled. Campuses will remain open.
  • All licensed child care facilities, out-of-school care programs and preschool programs are closed indefinitely.
  • All long-term care and other continuing care facilities are advised to limit visitation to essential visitors only.
  • Places of worship are no longer exempt from restrictions on mass gatherings.

The revised directive will affect all ECAC’s ministries and programs going forward. The church leaders are assessing the extents of the directive’s impacts, and exploring options to continue our mission while protecting our community and complying with the restrictions. An emergency elder board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to address the volatile situation.

As the COVID-19 situation is evolving rapidly, the church commits to provide regular progress updates and open communication with the congregations. Please check our web site daily for the latest developments and responses.… Click here to read more
