Guidance on Communion Online

In order to maintain a sense of corporate worship as Edmonton Chinese Alliance Church, we encourage you join us in communion online.

Here are some tips on how to participate during the online Sunday service:

  • In advance, prepare a small portion of bread or cracker and grape juice
  • Follow the instruction of our pastors just as if we’re all in-person at the church building
  • While you do not need to give the bread and wine to your children, take the opportunity to teach them the meaning of the communion
  • Try making unleavened bread at home with your family, especially if you have children. You can check out a video like this one.

The unleavened bread was part of the meal that Israelites ate before the exodus. The instance was recorded in Exodus 12. The significant meaning in the New Testament was explained by Paul in 1 Corinthians 5:7-8.

Further Scripture:

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
